He is a Manifesting Generator.That means Sacral life force with a direct line to the Throat — energy that turns into visible action almost immediately. This design is not built to sit and plan its way forward. It is built to meet something, respond to it, and move, often skipping steps other people have to walk through. His career reads as a sequence of responses rather than a sequence of plans: being cut from varsity, facing a defensive scheme built specifically to stop him, leaving the game and coming back to it.

His Authority is Emotional.Authority is where a person’s truth actually lives, and his sits in the Solar Plexus — which means it is never available in the moment. The speed is genuine; the decisions underneath it are supposed to be slow.

His Profile is 5/1, the Heretic Investigator.The 5th line carries a projection field, which is one of the more difficult things to be born with. People arrive with expectations that have very little to do with the actual person, and they turn when those expectations go unmet. Underneath it, the 1st line needs solid ground before it will move at all. The pattern is investigate privately, deliver publicly — and few athletes in any sport have been projected onto more heavily.

He has Split Definition.Two areas of his design are not internally connected, so something outside him has to bridge them. This is not a preference for good teammates or a nice idea about collaboration. It is a design that does not close on its own, and it shows up as a real dependence on the right people being in the right places around him.

His Incarnation Cross is the Left Angle Cross of Industry (30/29 | 34/20).

An Incarnation Cross is built from four Gates — the conscious Sun and Earth, and the unconscious Sun and Earth. Those four carry the largest share of a chart’s theme, which is why the Cross is read as life purpose. Not a job title. The kind of work a life gets shaped around.

His four run like this. The conscious Sun sits in Gate 30, Feelings — desire, the hunger for an experience, the wanting that makes a person chase something. The conscious Earth sits in Gate 29, Saying Yes — commitment, and specifically the capacity to say yes completely and then see the thing through after the cost turns out to be higher than expected. Underneath, the unconscious Sun sits in Gate 34, Power, the most forceful Gate in the BodyGraph, and the unconscious Earth in Gate 20, The Now, which is force expressed in the present rather than stored for later.

So the conscious half of the purpose runs on desire held in place by commitment. The unconscious half runs on raw power that only exists in the moment it is used. Wanting something badly, committing to it entirely, and carrying the force to act on it immediately.

The Left Angle part is not decoration. Crosses come in three angles, and they describe how a purpose reaches the world. A Right Angle life is largely self-contained — the person’s own process, worked out on their own terms. A Left Angle life is transpersonal: the purpose involves other people by design, and it tends to arrive through encounters rather than through planning. Someone on a Left Angle cross is not primarily here to work on themselves. They are here for something that lands on other people.

And Industry carries both of its meanings — industriousness, and effect on an industry.

One caution worth stating plainly, because it applies to every Cross on this site. A Cross describes a theme, not an outcome. Everyone born with the Left Angle Cross of Industry carries this same structure, and almost none of them are Michael Jordan. The chart describes the shape of the vehicle. What gets done with it is a different question entirely.

Your Western Astrology chart and the conscious side of your Human Design chart are the same calculation. Same moment, same degrees, same planets — Human Design simply reads them against a wheel of 64 Gates instead of 12 signs.

But Human Design adds a layer astrology does not have. Every chart has a second column, calculated from roughly 88 days before birth, called the unconscious or Design side. It is the body’s half — the part that runs without permission, that other people notice in you long before you notice it in yourself. It has no astrological counterpart, because astrology does not use that second moment.

So the Sun and Moon below each get read three ways: the sign, the conscious Gate, and the unconscious Gate.

His Sun

The Sun is core identity — the thing a person is at the centre, and in Human Design the single heaviest activation in the chart.

Aquarius describes the manner. Detached, contrarian, operating from a private code rather than the group’s, and comfortable being the one standing slightly outside the arrangement everyone else has agreed to.

The conscious Gate underneath that manner is Gate 30, the Gate of Feelings — desire. Not emotion in the soft sense, but the heat of wanting: the hunger for an experience, the fire that makes a person pursue something past the point where pursuing it is reasonable. This is the part he would recognise in himself. Conscious activations are the ones a person can describe about their own nature.

The unconscious Sun is Gate 34, the Gate of Power — the most forceful Gate in the BodyGraph, pure Sacral energy with no agenda attached to it. Unconscious activations work differently. They are not available to introspection; they simply operate, and everyone else sees them first.

Put together: an Aquarian presentation of cool distance, over a conscious engine of desire, over an unconscious engine of raw force.

And there is something specific here worth pointing out. His unconscious Sun in Gate 34 and his unconscious Earth in Gate 20 together form the Channel of Charisma (20-34) — energy that converts into visible action in the present moment. Neither of those two Gates appears anywhere in his conscious column. Which means the single most visible thing about him, the presence, is generated entirely by the half of his design he cannot perceive from the inside.

His Moon

The Moon is what settles a person — what they return to for regulation when things are loud.

Sagittarius needs range, distance and the long shot, and it sits here in the 6th House, which governs daily work, routine and craft. The conscious Gate is Gate 9, the Gate of Focus — the capacity to hold attention on one small thing long enough for it to compound into something large.

Astrology and Human Design are describing the same mechanism from two directions: he settles by narrowing. The practice habits he became known for read less like discipline imposed from outside and more like the thing that steadied him.

The unconscious Moon is Gate 48, the Gate of Depth — the well of capability, and the underside of it, which is the sense of not yet being deep enough for what is being asked. And in his chart that Gate has no partner. Gate 48 pairs with Gate 16 to complete a channel, and Gate 16 is not activated anywhere in his design, so 48 sits alone in an open Splenic Center — the only Splenic Gate he carries.

A Gate sitting alone in an open Center behaves differently from one inside a defined channel. It is not fixed or reliable. It amplifies whatever is around it and it never resolves into a steady sense of enough.

So the design describes conscious focus laid over an unconscious hunger for depth that has nowhere to settle. Worth being careful with that: it is a description of a configuration, not a claim about what any particular person feels.

His Ascendant

The Ascendant is how a person comes across at close range — the surface someone meets before they know anything else. Cancer is protective. A hard outer shell around something guarded, and a strong pull toward keeping private life private.

This one gets no conscious-and-unconscious reading, and the reason is worth knowing. The Ascendant is an angle, not a planet — it is the degree that was rising on the horizon at birth, not a body moving through the sky. Human Design’s BodyGraph is built from the thirteen planetary positions only, so the Ascendant has a position on the wheel but no Gate activation, and no second calculation behind it. One point, one reading.

His Life Path is 11, a Master Number.The Life Path comes from the birth date and is the largest number in a Numerology chart. Master Numbers are not reduced — 11 stays 11 rather than resolving to 2 — and they run at a higher voltage than the numbers around them. The 11 carries heightened visibility and the pressure that comes with it. It is the number of being watched, and of having to function while being watched.

His Birth Day number is 8, from being born on the 17th. This is a smaller influence than the Life Path, and it describes something more specific: how a person handles weight. The 8 is capacity and command — the ability to carry scale without buckling under it.

His Expression number is also 8, calculated from his full birth name, Michael Jeffrey Jordan. Expression describes the outward instrument: what someone is actually equipped to do in the world, as distinct from what they are here to learn. An 8 here is authority and material scale.

Taken together, that is two 8s underneath an 11. The 11 supplies the exposure and the pressure; the 8s supply the capacity to stand in it. Numerology does not explain what he achieved — nothing in a chart does that. But the shape of these three numbers describes someone built to operate at scale while being watched, which is a fair description of the circumstances he spent his career inside.

He is a Water Rabbit.The Rabbit is the most retiring of the twelve animals — diplomatic, private, conflict-avoidant, more inclined to withdraw than to confront. Water softens it further.

That sits oddly beside the public reputation, and the oddness is the useful part. The Rabbit does not describe the competitor. It describes the man who kept his private life closed, and who stepped away from the game entirely, twice.

One note on the dates: the Chinese year does not begin on 1 January. In 1963 it began on 25 January, and he was born on 17 February — after the cutoff, which makes him a Rabbit rather than a Tiger. February births are exactly where zodiac assignments get gotten wrong.
