6/3 Emotional Generator
Left Angle Cross of Spirit
24 February 1955 · 7:15 PM PST · San Francisco, California Rodden AA
Steve Jobs was an American entrepreneur and business executive, born in San Francisco in 1955 and died in 2011.
He co-founded Apple in 1976 with Steve Wozniak, building it from a garage operation into one of the largest companies in the world. He was forced out of Apple in 1985 after a boardroom conflict, founded the computer company NeXT, and bought the graphics division of Lucasfilm that became Pixar Animation Studios. Apple acquired NeXT in 1996, returning him to the company he had started, and he served as chief executive from 1997 until shortly before his death.
In that second period he oversaw the iMac, the iPod, iTunes, the iPhone and the iPad. He received the National Medal of Technology in 1985, and through the sale of Pixar became the largest individual shareholder in the Walt Disney Company.

That is the career, and it divides cleanly into three acts: the founding, the exile, the return. Hold onto that shape — it comes back below.
Steve Jobs is widely described online as a Manifestor. He is not. His Sacral Center is defined, which makes him a Generator — and the difference matters, because Manifestors are built to initiate and Generators are built to respond.
What he does have is a 6/3 Profile, which is the configuration that lives in three distinct acts, and an open G Center, which is the part of the BodyGraph that governs identity and direction. An open G does not hold a fixed sense of either.
A man with no settled internal answer to who am I and where am I going, in a design built to respond rather than initiate. That is a stranger and more interesting chart than the one usually attributed to him.
Definition: Steve Jobs was born 24 February 1955 at 7:15 PM PST in San Francisco, California. In Human Design he is a Generator with Emotional Authority, a 6/3 Profile, Split Definition, and the Left Angle Cross of Spirit (55/59 | 9/16). Five of his nine Centers are defined; the G, Head, Heart and Splenic Centers are open. In Western Astrology he is a Pisces Sun with an Aries Moon and Virgo Rising. His Numerology Life Path is 1. In Chinese Astrology he is a Wood Goat.
Everything on this page depends on a birth time of 7:15 PM, and that time deserves a warning that most charts do not.
His conscious Sun sits 0.0019° from a Gate boundary — which, at the speed the Sun moves, is about two minutes and forty seconds of birth time. If the recorded time is off by even three minutes in one direction, the conscious Sun leaves Gate 55 entirely. The Profile changes. The Incarnation Cross changes. The definition of the Heart Center changes.
We calculated that margin directly rather than taking it from anywhere, and it is the narrowest of the four charts in this section by a factor of several hundred. For comparison, Michael Jordan’s Sun would need his birth time to be wrong by more than forty hours to shift a Gate.
The 7:15 PM time is the recorded one and it carries a Rodden AA rating, so it is what we have used throughout. But some practitioners work from a rectified time a few minutes later, which produces a different chart, and they are not being careless in doing so — this is a genuinely borderline case rather than a disagreement about method.
Read the rest of this page with that in mind. Where a chart sits this close to an edge, confidence should be proportional.
He is a Generator. His Sacral Center is defined, and no motor connects directly to his Throat — which makes him a Generator rather than a Manifesting Generator, and rules out Manifestor entirely. Generators carry the consistent working energy of the system and are built to respond to what actually appears rather than to initiate from nothing. The popular version of him as a pure initiator is the part of this chart that does not hold up.
His Authority is Emotional. His Solar Plexus is defined through the Channel of Recognition (30-41), which means clarity is never available in the moment. A feeling has to complete its arc before anything is true. Decisions taken at the peak and decisions taken at the trough will contradict each other, and neither is the answer.
His Profile is 6/3, the Role Model Martyr. The 3rd line learns by trial and error — it finds out what does not work by running into it, and it is not deterred by that. The 6th line is the one that structures a life into three distinct phases: an experimental first period, a long middle stretch of relative withdrawal and observation, and a later phase of emerging with something worked out. Whether or not the standard age bands fit any individual, the shape is the point — a 6/3 life tends to read as acts rather than as a continuous line.
He has Split Definition. Two areas of his design are not internally connected, so something outside him has to bridge them. It is a design that does not close on its own, and it shows up as a real dependence on particular people being in particular places rather than a general preference for collaboration.
His G Center is open, and this is the most interesting single feature of the chart. The G Center is where identity, direction and a sense of place live. When it is defined, a person carries a fixed answer to who they are and which way they are going. When it is open, that answer is not fixed — it is taken in from the environment and amplified, which makes an open-G person unusually sensitive to where they are and who they are around. The question of direction never resolves internally. It gets answered, over and over, by the room.
His Incarnation Cross is the Left Angle Cross of Spirit (55/59 | 9/16).
An Incarnation Cross is built from four Gates — the conscious Sun and Earth, and the unconscious Sun and Earth. Those four carry the largest share of a chart’s theme, which is why the Cross is read as life purpose. Not a job title. The kind of work a life gets shaped around.
His conscious Sun sits in Gate 55, Spirit — abundance, mood, and the emotional wave at its most mutative. Gate 55 is about a feeling of rightness that arrives before there is any evidence for it. His conscious Earth is in Gate 59, Sexuality, which in Human Design is the Gate of intimacy and of breaking through another person’s defences to reach them.
Underneath, the unconscious Sun is in Gate 9, Focus — attention held on one small detail long enough for it to compound — and the unconscious Earth in Gate 16, Skills, which is enthusiasm and the repetition that turns talent into craft.
So the conscious half of the purpose runs on conviction that precedes evidence. The unconscious half runs on obsessive attention to detail and on practised skill.
Left Angle matters. Crosses come in three angles. A Right Angle life is largely self-contained — the person’s own process, on their own terms. A Left Angle life is transpersonal: the purpose involves other people by design and tends to arrive through encounters rather than planning. Someone on a Left Angle cross is not primarily here to work on themselves. They are here for something that lands on other people.
And one caution, as with every Cross on this site. A Cross describes a theme, not an outcome. Everyone born with the Left Angle Cross of Spirit carries this same structure, and almost none of them are Steve Jobs. The chart describes the shape of the vehicle. What gets done with it is a different question.
Your Western Astrology chart and the conscious side of your Human Design chart are the same calculation. Same moment, same degrees, same planets — Human Design simply reads them against a wheel of 64 Gates instead of 12 signs.
But Human Design adds a layer astrology does not have. Every chart has a second column, calculated from roughly 88 days before birth, called the unconscious or Design side. It is the body’s half — the part that runs without permission, and that other people notice in you long before you notice it in yourself. It has no astrological counterpart, because astrology does not use that second moment.
So the Sun and Moon below each get read three ways: the sign, the conscious Gate, and the unconscious Gate.
5°44′ Pisces · Conscious Gate 55.6, Spirit · Unconscious Gate 9.3, Focus
The Sun is core identity — the thing a person is at the centre, and in Human Design the single heaviest activation in the chart.
Pisces is the last sign and the least bounded one. Its character is the dissolving of edges: imagination, vision, and a relationship to things that do not exist yet that is as vivid as most people’s relationship to things that do.
The conscious Gate is Gate 55, Spirit — abundance and mood, and the conviction that something is right before any evidence has arrived to support it. Gate 55 is the most mutative Gate in the emotional system: it does not run on reason, and it is not available to be argued with while it is running.
A Pisces Sun in the Gate of Spirit is a fairly exact mechanical description of the thing that got called a reality distortion field. Not charisma. A configuration in which the unbuilt version of something is experienced as already real.
The unconscious Sun is Gate 9, Focus — the capacity to hold attention on one small detail until it compounds. Unconscious activations are not available to introspection; they simply operate, and everyone around the person sees them first.
Vision at the conscious layer, over an unconscious engine of relentless detail. Those two are usually found in different people.
7°44′ Aries, 7th House · Conscious Gate 17.5, Opinions · Unconscious Gate 41.1, Contraction
The Moon is what settles a person — what they return to for regulation when things are loud.
Aries settles through action and directness rather than reflection; it discharges rather than absorbs. It sits in the 7th House, the house of the one-to-one relationship — partners, counterparts, opponents.
The conscious Gate is Gate 17, Opinions, sitting in his defined Channel of Acceptance (17-62). Gate 17 is the formed opinion that wants to be voiced — not a preference, a position, arrived at logically and held. Regulation through having a view and stating it.
The unconscious Moon is Gate 41, Contraction — the Gate that begins every cycle of experience. Gate 41 is pure pressure: the fantasy of a new experience before there is any way to have it, and the compression that precedes anything starting. It is half of his Channel of Recognition (30-41), which is the channel that gives him Emotional Authority in the first place.
So the thing that regulates him consciously is holding and stating a position, while the unconscious layer of the same body is generating fresh appetite for the next unbuilt thing.
22°17′ Virgo
The Ascendant is how a person comes across at close range — the surface someone meets before they know anything else. Virgo rising presents as exacting: precise, quick to locate the flaw, and holding both itself and everything around it to a standard that is rarely stated out loud but is always being applied.
Placed underneath a Pisces Sun, that is a notable combination — a boundless visionary core presenting through a surface that is fastidious about detail.
This one gets no conscious-and-unconscious reading. The Ascendant is an angle, not a planet — the degree rising on the horizon at birth, not a body moving through the sky. Human Design’s BodyGraph is built from the thirteen planetary positions only, so the Ascendant has a position on the wheel but no Gate activation and no second calculation behind it. One point, one reading.
His Life Path is 1.The Life Path comes from the birth date and is the largest number in a Numerology chart. The 1 is the originator — the number of doing the thing first, and of a strong resistance to being told how. It is the most self-directed number in the system and it does not sit comfortably underneath anyone.
His Birth Day number is 6, from being born on the 24th. This is a smaller influence than the Life Path. The 6 is responsibility and standards — the pull toward the way something ought to be done, and dissatisfaction when it is not.
His Expression number is 1, calculated from his full birth name, Steven Paul Jobs. Expression describes the outward instrument: what a person is equipped to do in the world, as distinct from what they are here to learn. A 1 here doubles the originator theme — the Life Path says be first, and the instrument is built for it.
Taken together: a doubled 1 with a 6 underneath. Two numbers pushing toward going first and doing it a new way, and a third that will not let a standard slide. Numerology does not explain a career — nothing in a chart does that. But the arrangement is unusually consistent, and worth noting alongside a Human Design chart that says respond rather than initiate. The two systems are not agreeing here, and that tension is real rather than a fault in the reading.
He is a Wood Goat. The Goat is the aesthete of the twelve — the animal most concerned with beauty, taste and the quality of its surroundings, and the least interested in doing things the accepted way. Goats are commonly described as the artists of the cycle. Wood adds growth and a certain stubbornness about direction.
The Goat is also, notably, not a leader animal in the traditional reading. It is a maker with strong preferences.
One note on the dates, because it matters here. The Chinese year does not begin on 1 January. In 1955 it began on 24 January, and he was born on 24 February — one month after the cutoff, which makes him a Goat rather than a Horse. February births are exactly where zodiac assignments get gotten wrong, and his falls close enough to the boundary to be worth checking rather than assuming.
24 February 1955 · 7:15 PM PST · San Francisco, California · Rodden AA
Rodden AA is the highest reliability grade in astrology and means the time comes from a birth certificate. But as set out at the top of this page, his conscious Sun sits under three minutes from a Gate boundary, which makes this chart more sensitive to the recorded time than almost any other on the site. The rating and the fragility are both true at once.

Manifestor charts have an undefined Sacral with a motor connected to the Throat, and his does not. The Manifestor attribution is common online but does not match the chart.
Emotional Authority and a 6/3 Profile, the Role Model Martyr. A defined Solar Plexus always takes precedence in determining Authority, and it means clarity arrives over time rather than in the moment.
Because his conscious Sun sits roughly two minutes and forty seconds of birth time from a Gate boundary. A small difference in the recorded or rectified time changes his Profile, his Incarnation Cross and the definition of his Heart Center. This page uses the recorded 7:15 PM time throughout.
A Pisces Sun with an Aries Moon and Virgo Rising. His Life Path is 1 and his Expression number is also 1. In Chinese Astrology he is a Wood Goat.
